Netiquette!

Now that the 21st century is well underway, you will no doubt be using more and more technology in your daily professional communication.

One hospital recently did away with voice paging/messaging in favor or texting. This would make for a quieter environment for the patients. A doctor working with Hello Health® actually has text and video chat sessions with his client. Nurses monitor blogs and run support groups in Second Life®. Nurse managers cut face to face meetings in favor of email and asynchronous discussions. These are just a few examples that give you a glimpse of what your practice will entail.

Because you will be using so many different technologies to communicate, it is important to consider an aspect of professional virtual communication, also known as Netiquette.

Netiquette is a group of guidelines that helps you connect with others in a way that your communication will be taken seriously. It allows you to connect with the 16 year old needing guidance on sexually transmitted disease.
