Using Sherpath for Remote Learning

human patient simulation technology and learning activities for students

At this point, most faculty have been told classes have been suspended due to COVID-19 and need ideas right now to begin teaching online. Teaching online may be a new experience for you but Sherpath has all the tools you need at your fingertips to guide you and your students.

Here are four ways to quickly assist you in using Sherpath for remote learning:

  1. To start, have students read the eBook and/or Lessons to ensure students have a basic understanding of course content. Sherpath includes the estimated time it will take for students to complete the Lesson which will help guide you in assigning online hours. Power Points can also be made available to present information related to the module topic.
  2. Case Studies can be used as an elevated learning tool to help students apply their content knowledge. Case Studies are not auto-graded but students can answer the questions as an assignment that is turned in or used to facilitate discussion board topics or used to facilitate discussion during a virtual classroom session.
  3. Review the “Add Resource” feature for class activity ideas to enhance student learning. Many of the ideas listed in the “Add Resource” feature include online activities or activities that could easily be adapted for online learning as either online assignments or facilitated virtual sessions.
  4. Virtual Simulations are available in many Sherpath courses and can be used in replacement of clinical hours or as an online learning assignment. If replacing for clinical hours, a best practice suggestion is to have students work through the scenario and complete their “normal” clinical paperwork on the Simulated patient. Don’t forget to debrief! This can be done through discussion board questions or during a virtual session.
