•The focus of this revision will include updating medications that are no longer used with more current medications, updating content on medication administration equipment and techniques as well as content related to patient safety goals. •Updated content from The Joint Commission, The National Patient Safety Goals and other Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) documents to the newest editions will be included. •New medications, especially those for type 2 diabetes as well as other medications not included in the current edition will be included. Information about disposable insulin pump systems such as Omnipod will be included. •Drug labels will be replaced with more current ones for accurate calculations and problem solving. •Revisions to current content will focus on content related to safe medication administration: • a. More clearly label insulin syringe illustrations (U-30, U-50, and U-100). • b. Help students to understand insulin administration in relation to blood sugar and next mealtime. This is to ensure sliding scale orders are • interpreted and administered safely. • c. Emphasize the importance of safe preparation area to limit distractions. • d. Include a description of Black Box Warnings and their importance. • e. Include the three-step medication check during medication preparation and administration. • f.
