Meet the Elsevier Nursing Education Specialists

The team of Nursing Education Specialists empower faculty with educational expertise to foster student success. They deliver best practices that are supported by learning sciences, provide data-driven consultation, and deliver nursing continuing professional development to support faculty and ensure optimal outcomes for our programs.

Tammy Pleasant, MSN-Ed RN CNE

Tammy has been a nurse for 40 years, has experience teaching in both pre and post licensure programs, and has been a Certified Nurse Educator since 2012. She has expertise and a passion for conceptual teaching, serving on the committee that developed North Carolina’s statewide concept-based curriculum for ADN programs. In her role as
Senior Nursing Education Specialist, in addition to assisting programs with effective implementation of Elsevier’s digital products, she also serves as a thought leader, providing professional development to fellow nurse educators, writing blogs and white papers, and contributing to the Elsevier Insights podcast. Tammy’s passion for nursing education is evident as she works with nursing programs assisting them to shape the future of nursing with the development of safe practicing new nurses!

Jodi Orm, MSN RN CNE

Jodi is a Certified Nurse Educator who has focused on integrating new technologies and how they can be used to enhance the learning process. Her tenure at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan included Director of Simulation as well as Assistant Professor of Nursing. In her current role as Nursing Education Specialist with Elsevier, she gets to do what she loves most – engage with faculty every single day! Throughout the last decade, she has been lucky enough to share innovative educational strategies with faculty throughout the United States, Canada, China, and Australia. She strongly believes that technology can add curiosity and excitement for the learner, especially in nursing education.

Julie Kelly, DNP RN

Julie has been a nurse for 30 years and has experience teaching in pre and post licensure nursing. She has also served as a nursing program director and has great perspective for programs working on accreditation review. Julie is passionate about using data and analytics to drive improvement at the course and program level. In addition to helping faculty integrate Elsevier digital tools, Julie serves as a thought leader delivering webinars, presentations, and continuing education sessions on key topics such as item writing and active learning. Julie is passionate about nursing education and enjoys supporting faculty as they prepare practice ready nurses.

Dinez Swanson, DNP MBA RN

Dinez (Dee) has 25 years of experience as a nurse and educator. She has a passion for nursing education and impacting healthcare through higher education. She has extensive experience in teaching and learning including curriculum development, student success, and leadership roles in LVN/LPN, ADN, BSN, (online and on the ground) and 2nd degree nursing programs. Dee’s diverse professional experience provides her with a deep understanding of the challenges facing students, faculty, and administrators. She also recently earned her Master of Business Administration, lending an even greater lens into the business of nursing education. As a Nursing Education Specialist with Elsevier, Dee is committed to making sure nursing faculty have everything they need to serve their students and achieve their program outcomes.

Julie Byrne, MSN RN CRNP

Julie is a family nurse practitioner with clinical experience in pediatric oncology and palliative care. She has worked in nursing education for the past 14 years, with extensive experience in post-licensure and online education. Julie also has a depth of knowledge in virtual simulation and serves as the team expert in this area. Students and instructors may even recognize her voice from Shadow Health tutorials! In her current role, she is able to do what she loves – create tools to help both students and faculty feel confident and proficient with Elsevier’s products so they can make the most of their educational experience.

Hollie Moots, DNP RN CNE CHSE

Hollie is an NLN Certified Nurse Educator and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She brings a diverse nursing background and has teaching experience in lab, clinical, simulation, as well as didactic teaching experience both in person and online and she has taught at all levels (LPN, ADN, BSN, and Graduate). Hollie has studied and implemented the Team-Based Learning approach and is an advocate for bringing clinical to the classroom to improve critical thinking and clinical judgement. She has expertise in curriculum design as well as program evaluation and accreditation. In her role of Nursing Education and Implementation Manger, Hollie is proud to be a small cog in the wheel that is driving nursing into the future!
