Elsevier Secure Browser Faculty Guide: Student Testing on Chromebooks

This faculty readiness guide outlines the key steps and information faculty need to know about their test-takers accessing the Elsevier Secure Browser with Chromebooks.

Download the Chromebook App

1. To download the Chromebook app, search “Elsevier Secure Browser” in the Google Play Store or use this link to begin installation.
Note: Review the device requirements ahead of test day.

2. Log into HESI NG as usual (via Evolve or LMS) to launch the exam. First, register for the exam if that has not yet been completed.

3. Click on the exam link to get to the exam details page.

4. To launch the exam, log into HESI NG as usual (via Evolve or LMS).

If the App is Already Installed on the Device

1. “Open in App” should appear in the browser bar, or, if “remember this choice” had been previously selected, it will automatically open the app to the exam waiting room, where students will input the access code.

2. Click “Manage apps and devices,” then check the pending downloads by clicking the see details link under updates.

3. Finally, retry the download by clicking the refresh button located to the right.

If the App is Not Installed on the Device

1. From the app downloading section, click the link to the Google Play Store.

2. Then, click “Install.”
Note: This may take a few minutes depending on the device and network strength.

3. Open the app to see the landing page, then exit out of the landing page to return to the instructions page in the browser.

4. Follow the instructions to refresh your screen to see “Open in App” appear in the browser bar.

5. Select “Remember this choice,” then, each subsequent time an exam (or compatibility check) is launched, the exam room will open in the app.
