Meet KORALYS (KORY) RODRIGUEZ

Future Nurse | Elsevier Student Ambassador

Koralys, or Kory for short, is a nursing student at Mitchell Community College. She is completing the final year of her ADN program, and plans to complete her BSN online shortly after.

Kory became a CNA during her senior year of high school. She worked at gaining hands-on experience in healthcare as an intern at a natural birthing center, and then a pediatric therapy center, before starting nursing school. She did so while also experiencing healthcare on the “patient side”, and says that her own experiences as a patient continue to push her to want to be the best nurse she can be.

Kory was born in Puerto Rico, and is fluent in Spanish in addition to English. She has seen and experienced first-hand the kinds of disparities that women of color (WOC) face in healthcare, and she wants to do more- both as a nurse and an advocate. This, tied with her life-long passion for women’s and infant’s health, is what is currently pushing Kory to want to become an advanced practice RN. She plans to continue schooling to receive her MSN in Midwifery, where she can work alongside women of all backgrounds, and help change healthcare from the inside out.

FUN FACTS:

  • Kory is currently working as a pharmacy technician while she completes nursing school. Not only has she been filling prescriptions, but she’s been a part of the first wave of technicians approved for giving vaccines (specifically the COVID-19 vaccine)!
  • Kory has a little black rescue dog named Finn who she adores!
  • Kory loves to be out in nature (hiking, camping, etc.). She hopes to one day be able to do mission work as a midwife in a different country.
