A diverse group of nursing education thought-leaders, Elsevier’s Nursing Advisory Board is dedicated to advancing the quality and effectiveness of nursing education for institutions, faculty, and students.

Gerry Altmiller

Gerry Altmiller, EdD, APRN, ACNS-BC, ANEF, FAAN

Director of the Quality and Safety Innovation Center, QSEN Academic Task Force Lead, Professor of Nursing
The College of New Jersey

Dr. Gerry Altmiller is a professor of nursing, a clinical nurse specialist consultant for Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and director of the Quality and Safety Innovation Center at The College of New Jersey. Dr. Altmiller serves as a national consultant for QSEN and leads the QSEN Academic Task Force, creating opportunities for its 120 faculty members to network, share ideas, and conduct academic-focused research. Dr. Altmiller received a Lindback Award for distinguished teaching in 2014. Her work on constructive feedback led to the development, testing, and dissemination of support tools for nurse educators and learning tools for students to view feedback as an opportunity.

Sheila Burke

Sheila Burke, DNP, MBA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC

Vice President of Nursing Education

Dr. Sheila Burke formerly served in the role of Vice President of Nursing for Education Affiliates. She has led the development and implementation of strategies for high-quality faculty performance and professional development and assured ongoing nursing compliance with all required standards. In addition to serving as a Dean of Nursing at Concorde Career College, Carrington College, and Kaplan University, Dr. Burke began her nursing career in hospice and palliative care.

Barbara L. Cannella

Barbara Cannella, PhD, RNC-OB, APN

Assistant Dean and Clinical Associate Professor
Rutgers University School of Nursing

Dr. Barbara Cannella, Assistant Dean and Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers University School of Nursing, has more than 25 years of experience in academic nursing education. She is certified as a perinatal advanced practice nurse with clinical expertise in inpatient obstetrics and caring for high-risk pregnant patients in the community setting. She oversees the maternity and leadership courses at the undergraduate level.

Dr. Cannella’s research focuses on health practices during pregnancy and patient safety issues during labor and delivery. She served on the advisory board for the Black Infant Mortality Reduction Resource Center and the Quality Assurance Committee for the Northern NJ Maternal Child Health Consortium.

Diane Evans-Prior

Diane Evans-Prior, DNP, RN

Academic Affairs Director of Nursing
Central New Mexico Community College

Dr. Diane Evans-Prior has taught prelicensure nursing at the same community college for twenty years. During her career, she helped the program transition to the conceptually based New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) statewide curriculum. In addition, she has made the program more accessible, more affordable, and more ethnically diverse for the student population it serves.

Dr. Evans-Prior currently serves on the NMNEC Leadership Council, is the past president for the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence and the New Mexico Action Coalition, and volunteers with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. She presents regularly at both national and local conferences and has authored many publications.

Lorna Kendrick

Lorna Kendrick, PhD, APRN, PMHCNS-BC

Dean
Samuel Merritt University College of Nursing

Dr. Lorna Kendrick is currently serving as Dean of the Samuel Merritt University College of Nursing. She earned her PhD in nursing from UCLA with a focus on depression as it impacts risks to the immune and cardiovascular systems. Dr. Kendrick has worked for many years in neurosurgical ICU and as an Advanced Practice Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist maintaining a small private practice while working in academia for the past 27 years. She has completed the Executive Leadership Program at the Wharton School of Business.

Juliet Kolde

Juliet Kolde, PhD, RN, CNE

Director, Learning Resources
Nightingale College

Dr. Juliet Kolde currently serves in the role of Director, Learning Resources for Nightingale College. Her 25+ years of nursing experience include critical care, pediatrics, school nursing, community health, informatics, nursing education and leadership, and nursing curriculum development. She maintains professional memberships in National League for Nursing (NLN) and Sigma Theta Tau. Dr. Kolde currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a visionary, doctoral-prepared nurse educator and leader, Dr. Kolde is driven to increase knowledge and practice of nursing within the clinical and educational realms. She is dedicated to driving innovative change to narrow the practice-theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion gaps within nursing education.

Julibeth Lauren

Julibeth Lauren, PhD, APRN, ACNS-BC

System Vice President, Clinical Practice, Nursing, and Patient Education
M Health Fairview

Dr. Julibeth Lauren is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse currently serving as the System Vice President of Clinical Practice, Nursing, and Patient Education for M Health Fairview, a large health system in Minnesota. She also serves as Senior Contributing Faculty in the DNP/PhD programs at Walden University and Affiliate Faculty for the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Lauren’s clinical background is primarily as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cardiovascular Services and Critical Care. Professional accomplishments include local and national speaker, author, and nurse researcher. Special interest and areas of expertise include adult learning theory, learner-centered training and education, transformational and reality-based leadership, patient education, health literacy, plain language, and shared decision-making.

Anna M. McDaniel

Anna M. McDaniel, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dean and Linda Harman Aiken Professor
University of Florida College of Nursing

Dr. Anna M. McDaniel became the fifth dean of the University of Florida College of Nursing in 2013 and also serves as the Associate Vice President for Academic-Practice Partnership at UF Health Shands Hospital.

Dr. McDaniel, an award-winning, innovative teacher, has taught clinical and didactic courses at baccalaureate, graduate, and post-doctoral levels throughout her career. She has a long history as a strong leader in curriculum development and innovative pedagogy. She currently serves on the executive board of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing, the purpose of which is to improve the nursing care provided to persons in Florida through advancing nursing education, research, and practice.

Janelle R. Sokolowich

Janelle R. Sokolowich, PhD, MSN/Ed, RN

Academic Vice President/Dean, College of Health Professions
Western Governors University

Dr. Sokolowich has been an academic leader for over a decade, having held various roles, including Dean of Academic Operations, Interim Dean, and faculty. Dr. Sokolowich serves as the Academic Vice President/Dean for the College of Health Professions at Western Governors University (WGU), providing leadership to undergraduate, graduate nursing, and health professions programs. Her passion for student success, specifically for the underserved, is marked by her drive for innovation to reach all who desire a degree. Her research includes the successful orientation of nursing faculty and intentional, focused academic support of culturally and linguistically diverse students. She most recently was a co-author of the first diversity and inclusion toolkit by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in ten years.
