Deepen Students’ Understanding of Clinical Practice with Use of Debriefing

Debriefing is a means of “assisting the learner in analyzing, interpreting, and assimilating events in an attempt to bridge the gap between merely experiencing a situation and actually making sense of what happened.” In short, debriefing involves a retrospective assessment and interactive discussion regarding the students’ performance after clinical events occur. The goal of these conversations is to explore actions and thought processes through active reflection in order to improve future performance.
